The Wenchuan earthquake affected 20 cities (prefectures) and 139 counties (cities, districts), the affected area reaching 280,000 square kilometers. This includes the hardest hit area of more than 100,000 square kilometers. During the earthquake, 68,712 people were killed, 17,921 people missing, 375,000 people were injured. More than 10 million people were made homeless.
